Living up to her achievements of being the youngest-ever winner of the Paganini Competition back in 1999, Sayaka Shoji has perfected the mastery of the violin. This August, Sayaka Shoji will bring to life the virtuosic romantic tunes of Johannes Brahms with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Led by SSO Music Conductor Hans Graf, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Sayaka Shoji will play an entire programme of Brahm’s emotional works on 1 and 2 August 2024 at the Victoria Concert Hall. Tickets are available online for both nights, and will be a night to remember.

The night starts off with the dramatic Tragic Overture Op 81 by Brahms, written for the concert overture and is a thrilling piece that was inspired by his visit to the fashionable resort of Bad Ischl, known for its medicinal springs and brine baths. The tragedy then gives way to the calm poetic lulls of Serenade No. 2 in A major, Op. 16.

The second half of the programme shines the spotlight on Sayaka Shoji, as she takes on Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major, Op.77. Opus 77 is the composer’s one and only violin concerto, and is considered as one of the Germans’ four greatest violin concerti in all its seriousness and lyrical sensitivity – in which Sayaka will definitely be able to engage with on her intrsument.
