Review: Treating Dull Skin With Laser Facials At MY Medical Aesthetics
CONTENT: Michelle Ng
While most of us turn to facials to keep our skin flawless and glowing, it can require multiple sessions for the results to appear. And it would take lots of time on a skincare routine to keep up that flawless appearance. With laser facials, the use of lasers is a more permanent solution to treat common problems like acne, scarring, and hyperpigmentation.
Targeting the right skin concerns
MY Medical Aesthetics’ signature treatments are lasers and injectables, which are often used as part of their facial treatments. For more effective results, multiple treatments can also be done during the same session to reduce downtime and shorten the recovery time. Facials can be combined with lasers, fillers and skin booster injectables for more efficient results.
The clinic also offers a whole suite of other aesthetic treatments that cover other beauty concerns like wrinkle reduction, removal of moles and skin tags, dark eye circle removal, body contouring, skin tightening, hair removal, and even tattoo removal.
Before any treatment even commenced, I was first brought to a room with Doctor Lim Ming Yee to assess my skin condition. Doctor Lim was very friendly and after a quick analysis of my skin condition, he recommended the PicoSure Pro Laser as well as a hydrating ProFacial. Even though there were barely any pigmentation, my skin was on the dull side, which can be caused by dead skin and dehydration.
The facial would help exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, whilst the PicoSure Pro laser will help tighten my pores and lighten the skin, giving a brighter look naturally. The PicoSure Pro works by delivering ultra-short pulses to create an intense photomechanical impact known as PressureWave. The resulting PressureWave shatters the pigments into tiny particles easily eliminated by the body, and doesn’t causing significant damage to the surrounding skin thus making it great for targeting stubborn spots and hyperpigmentation.
I liked how Doctor Lim was very helpful to answer all my questions as this was my first time at a laser clinic, and he even gave tips to maintain my skin condition after the facial.
I then headed to an individual treatment room to start the facial. The ProFacial uses aqua peeling technology to cleanse, exfoliate, and nourish the skin, giving it a smooth texture by removing keratin and dead skin cells. A moisture-boosting serum was applied to add more hydration, and the whole exfoliation process was very gentle on the skin.
Once cleansed, a numbing cream was applied. As I was a bit more sensitive to pain, the aesthetician left the cream on a bit longer for about 20-30 minutes. As someone with very low pain tolerance, the laser treatment was just bearable. There was also a machine blasting cold air into my face, which helped with the pain. Doctor Lim described the treatment as like tiny rubber bands snapping against the skin, it felt more akin to touching a finger to a hot kettle and holding it there.
The whole process was over in less than 10 minutes, although Doctor Lim did share that if there is more pigmentation or scarring to remove, then the laser time would take longer. I then headed back to the treatment room for a cooling sheet mask, with LED light to boost the absorption of the hydration serum.
Results & Aftercare
I was in and out of the clinic in 90 mins, which was pretty fast and easy. I didn’t feel any pain on my face after the cooling sheet mask, and – aside from minor redness – there wasn’t any other side effects or irritation.
Aftercare was more about sun protection and hydration, as the skin is more sensitive after the laser treatment. Sunscreen and moisturiser was heavily recommended, and to avoid being in direct sunlight for the next 24 hours. MY Medical Aesthetics also gave me some cream to bring home in case of irritation or infection, which I didn’t have to use at all because the recovery downtime was less than a day. When going about my morning skincare routine the next day, I noticed that my face was brighter and glowing, with all redness from the treatment gone.
With nearly instant results and no major side effects, the laser facial treatment was so much more effective than my regular facial. And with a consultation before every session at MY Medical Aesthetics, each session is personalised to ensure best results!
