You Are My Sunshine: Beauty Playground with a Full Service Hair Salon, Lifestyle Retail Destination & a Korean-Western Café

The latest brainchild of Singapore’s top beauty lounges Leekaja Beauty Salon and Walking On Sunshine Salon & Café is a 3-in-1 lifestyle concept, You Are My Sunshine that has just set up its newest shop at Ngee Ann City.

You Are My Sunshine encapsulates everything that is all about #selfcare. Treat yourself to a relaxing head massage or hair treatment, whilst indulging in some good food! The eclectic, botanical charm of the café slash beauty salon makes for an Instagrammable backdrop as you get a well-deserved makeover.

The full-service salon provides all sorts of hair services from quick cuts to full-blown dye jobs and Korean perms – and all at wallet-friendly prices! If you’re familiar with Leekaja Salon, you would be familiar with their steep prices, but absolutely worth-it Cinderella Treatments that works wonders on your hair. Here at You Are My Sunshine, you get the same premium treatments but at slightly cheaper prices. The salon also takes care to use only vegan and professional hair care products so that your hair remains healthy and beautiful.

I booked a hair appointment with the intention of refreshing my hair dye job as the color had faded. After a review session with my hairstylist, she recommended that my hair needed some loving care in the form of a treatment as another hair dye job would damage my hair further. The salon also has the famous Cinderella Keratin Treatment, that gives moisture and nutrients to keep your hair nice and smooth. Taking over an hour, I left the salon feeling that like I just had a makeover for my hair. My frizzled ends were tamed down, and had a shine compared to the limp dryness that I went in with. Other than the Cinderella treatment, the salon also has a menu of different hair treatments targeting various pain points depending on the state of your hair.

Even if you’re not looking for a hair makeover, drop by the café next door for some delicious Korean-Western fusion food. The zen café is decked out in greenery to bring out an inner garden in this bustling city, with relaxing wooden furniture as you tuck into a hearty meal. Expect classic Korean dishes with a twist like the Crispy Fried Chicken with Yangnyeom Sauce and the Alfredo Bulgogi Fettucine. Be prepared to queue on the weekends as they can get quite packed.

If you’re stopping by in the middle of the day, go for something lighter like their Kroffle, their signature dessert made from pressing a croissant into a waffle pan. The light buttery croissant comes out in the texture of a waffle, and comes with your chosen topping of ice cream, honey and whipped cream, or chocolate. The Fluffy Souffle Pancake is another enjoyable dessert made for sharing, as you get two fluffy stacks of pancakes with fresh fruits and whipped Chantilly cream on top.

Previously before COVID at their sister salon Walking on Sunshine, customers could also order snacks and drinks from the café to be sent right to your hair station. For now, this remains on the menu and hopefully they would be able to implement this soon.

The retail store is yet another haven for lifestyle enthusiasts who prioritise their own well-being. The curated store carries home décor, beauty products, and hair care products to keep both your house and yourself in a relaxed state of mind as you constantly treat yourself.
