MM6 Maison Margiela Spring Summer 2025 Collection
Blunt is the way MM6 approaches the ongoing exercise in devising pieces of a wardrobe and, out of those, a collection. What stays is the non-narrative sense of matter-of-factness, a twisted brand of straightforwardness.
A line-up of pieces perfect for the sweltering heat of summer. An intense, almost sizzling heat, requiring swimming trunks in place of underwear maybe, or just some wet skin. Effortlessness imbues the attitude. Suggestions on how to make certain things at home are conveyed: fashioning a top out of a plastic bag, for instance; a knot on a t-shirt, overpainting a pair of jeans.
Pared down and yet always easy, the silhouette comes in slightly unconventional proportions. Men’s and womenswear talk to each other. The washed tones, the everydayness, the reproduction of found garments, the cut-through and the sexiness are the same, and so is the will to allow wearers to interpret things however they feel. And yet, the two are autonomous entities.
Suits, cowboy boots and the iconic Dr. Martens 1460 8-eyelet boots – are reinterpreted with the painted white treatment.
An emblematic print is featured: the reproduction of the original AIDS message, meant to still raise awareness. The story and archives of the Maison become once again a territory of exploration, with ideas and solutions that are taken and reshuffled as to match the here and now.
Accessories suggest gestures: commanding bracelet clutches, big buckle handbags, shielding sunglasses. Big belts cinch and highlight the waist.
Imbued with sultriness, this collection is an exercise in making fashion through each single piece. The heat is conveyed by the clothes in shades of white as well as the ambience: low ceilings and glaring music that make one sweat, and sweat, and sweat.
