Gyu-San Opens 2nd Outlet with A Charcoal Bar and Wagyu Hamburg Patties at Forum

Some might say that using wagyu to make hamburger patties is a waste of premium beef, but Gyu San proved us wrong! The restaurant in Tanjong Pagar is famous for their wagyu katsu sandos, and have now expanded with a second outlet at Forum The Shopping Mall with a new Charcoal Bar.
Gyu San Charcoal Bar is styled after a traditional Japanese izakaya, with bar counter seats and a menu of skewers overlooking the chef’s grill where the wagyu hamburg patties are made. The patties and wagyu skewers are grilled over Binchotan charcoal, which is great for cooking meats without smoke so you don’t head home smelling like your dinner.
There is only one main item, the A5 Wagyu Japanese Hamburg Set. For S$23.80, you get two wagyu patties, rice, salad, and miso soup. The wagyu patties are freshly ground daily, and are cooked upon order. Due to the higher fat content, the patty is tender and juicy, full of meaty flavour. Rice flown in from Uonuma City in Niigata and is of the finest quality, with a fluffy sweet taste that will have you ordering more. The soup and rice are refillable, which we were very tempted to do!
There are also eight condiments and sauces to savour your beef with, four are spicy – Singaporean Sambal, Kimchi, Edible Rayu, and Sambal, and four non-spicy – Confit Garlic, Chimichurri, Shio Lemon, and Sweet Sauce. Our favourites were the taberu rayu, with a spicy kick from the infused chili oil, the garlic confit that added a burst of umami, and the shio lemon, a refreshing taste that unexpected paired well with the meaty beef flavours.
If you can’t get enough wagyu, additional A5 Wagyu Hamburg patties are available at S$8.50 or order the Wagyu skewer (S$9) to. The Enoki & Beef (S$3.50) is a chewy roll of beef with enoki mushrooms wrapped inside, or try the grilled vegetables like Baby Corn (S$3.5), Shishito (S$5.50) and Asparagus (S$4.50) were delicious as they had just the right amount of char.
Gyu San has continuously impressed us with their quality wagyu dishes, and we will definitely be heading back to the Charcoal Bar for their exceptional wagyu patties, made sweeter at the affordable price point. Where else would we find a wallet-friendly wagyu place right in the middle of town?
Gyu San Charcoal Bar is open daily from 11am – 3pm and 5pm – 10.30pm, and is located at 538 Orchard Road #01-28 Forum The Shopping Mall, Singapore 238884.
