Japanese Butchery and Sando Shop Gyu San Unveils New Menu of ‘Poketto’ Pocket Sandwiches and Delectable Sides
One-stop butchery to go to for premium Japanese wagyu Gyu San, has launched its new menu of juicy melt-in-your-mouth Japanese wagyu katsu sandos and prime Japanese wagyu cut for steaks ‘poketto’ pocket sandwiches and a medley of sides.
The pocket sandwiches, colloquially called ‘poketto’ in Japanese, are made of the same shokupan milk bread as Gyu San’s sandos and comes in two delectable grilled and smoked options. They are complemented by a host of new sides ranging from savoury to sweet for the ultimate meal experience.
Here, Prime selections like striploin, tenderloin and ribeye are offered alongside secondary cuts that are just as sought after like the flank, oyster blade and tri tip for the largest range of over 55 Japanese wagyu cuts. The Gyu San team procures all Japanese wagyu directly from different prefectures of Japan, and will continue to evolve the variety offered at the butchery through the different seasons of the year.
Try the new poketto sandwiches in two delectable options, The A5 Yakiniku Poketto (S$45) stuffed to the brim with A5 wagyu steak dices, seasoned with a house-made yakiniku sauce and cooked to sizzling fragrant perfection before laced with wasabi aioli. The milky bread is layered with a shiso leaf before the grilled meat is deposited within it to keep its fluffy bite for a pocket sandwich that’s highly satisfying from start to finish. The A5 Pastrami Poketto (S$48) using the proven age old techniques of curing and brining to bring out the most flavor and tenderness to the beef, this takes at least five whole days to complete the entire cooking process, the pastrami is thinly sliced and garnished with pickled carrots, daikon and fresh ohba leaves to cut through the umami rich pastrami giving it a balanced finish.
Perfect to pair with the new pokettos are a host of new sides which include, the highly addictive Wasabi Chips (S$8), Gyu San’s signature wagyu-fat fried potato chips now come with a dusting of wasabi furikake powder for a spicy twist, A5 Wagyu Croquettes (S$15) made of minced wagyu laced with mushrooms, onions and potato, breaded, crumbed and deep-fried to golden crunch. They are served with a house-made Gyu San tare sauce concocted from Chef Tomoyuki‘s secret recipe based on maple syrup and hoisin sauce and lastly, the Padrón Peppers (S$14), a Mexican staple is given a Japanese touch with a seasoning of shio kombu and topped with katsuobushi (bonito flakes).
Craving for something sweet to end your meal? The Fruit Sando (S$12), a delightful cream sandwich featuring seasonal fruits on rotation is simply satisfying! Fresh strawberries, oranges and kiwis make an appearance in accordance with the season, promising refreshing juicy bites.
