Fans of Mexican food would know the original Papi’s Tacos located on on Seah Street – a charming taqueria known for its authentic, fuss-free Mexican fare. Now, Papi’s has opened a second, much larger outlet at Tanjong Pagar – aiming for diners to enjoy the same cheerful hospitality and honest fare at its sister outlet, but with more space for larger groups, in the bustling setting of town.

Here, the menu offers a variety of flavours that showcases authentic Mexican cooking techniques: from crisp tacos and hefty burritos, to melty quesadillas and zesty salsas, along with a veritable selection of margaritas, mezcal and private-label beers for good times late into the night.

Josh and Sarissa Schwartz, co-founders of Papi’s Tacos, said: “We are both huge fans of Mexican cooking and five years ago saw an exciting gap in the market for a small, immersive and animated taqueria. Papi’s Tacos has successfully carved a niche over the years by introducing an authentic Mexican experience – where guests can watch the food being made in front of them. The success of our original Papi’s Tacos outlet on Seah Street has propelled us to introduce Papi’s Tacos to different neighborhoods throughout Singapore, with Tanjong Pagar being next to launch.”

We enjoyed the ceviche of Aguachile de Barramudi – cured barramundi in a zesty, refreshing sauce of jalapenos, radish, habanero and lime, a wonderful appestiser to start off the meal with. The Elotes, grilled street corn topped with homemade aioli and a spiced powder and cheese, was another favourite that we couldn’t get enough of.

Of course, save your stomach for the mains! Get the signature Tacos al Pastor, which comes with pulled pork shoulder that’s been roasted on a traditional spinner from Mexico, together with a fresh pineapple for added sweet and spicy notes while cooking. We also enjoyed the meaty Asada Tacos, where housemade corn tortillas are filled with chunks of grass-fed Australian beef.

Finish off your meal with the traditional Mexican dessert Tres Leches – a three-milk cake sweetened with condensed milk, and topped with fresh berries. Wash it all down with a margarita or two: we loved the Prickly Pear Margarita, which came with a rim of habanero salt for added flavour.
