Summer in Japan is a time to celebrate Unagi Day, a tradition that began circa the Edo period. Being an abundant source of protein, vitamins and calcium, this midsummer luxury helps the Japanese to recharge and increase their stamina during the hotter days.

To celebrate the unagi season, specialist UnaUna introduces 3 new ways to enjoy the famed hitsumabushi – this brings a total of 6 ways to enjoy hitsumabushi! ! It is the first in Singapore to introduce this new style of hitsumabushi and uses Japanese ingredients to offer a uniquely UnaUna hitsumabushi experience.

Hitsumabushi sees plump eels arrayed over a bed of fluffy Japanese rice. Traditionally, there are three steps to enjoy the dish. The first is to savour the ingredients as they are. Then, add wasabi and green onions for the second portion. Thirdly, add wasabi and green onions and then soak the remaining portion with dashi.

Now, the new ingredients in the Premium Unagi Hitsumabushi Set include seaweed wrap, rice, unagi, ikura and spicy sauce. First, the crispy seaweed wrap serves as a base to lay the ingredients on. Wrap the ingredients up, just like how you would wrap a handroll, then pop it into your mouth for the ultimate enjoyment.

The Premium Unagi Hitsumabushi Set is available in two sizes: M (S$19.90) and L (S$22.90). UnaUna is also offering VivoCity’s best-value unagi hitsumabushi set at S$10.80 (small), which was previously S$12.80. Other sizes include M, L and XL (good for 3 – 4pax) at S$16.80, S$19.80, and S$52.80 respectively.
