The World’s 50 Best Restaurant 2022 unveiled the top restaurant rankings from No.1 to No.50 in the annual awards ceremony held live last night at London’s historic Old Billingsgate and hosted by Stanley Tucci.

Copenhagen’s Gernanium led by chef Rasmus Kofoed took the No.1 spot from last years Noma which has been elevated to the Best of the Best hall of fame. Chef Virgilio Martinez’s Central Restaurante in Peru takes the No.2 spot followed by Barcelona’s Disfrutar by chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas who claimed the No.3 spot.

The 2022 list includes restaurants from 24 territories in five continents worldwide, 12 restaurants making their debut, along with two returning as re-entries.

Asia is well represented with Tokyo’s Den which was named Best Restaurant in Asia and ranked No.20 on the list. The Chairman, Hong Kong took the No.24 spot followed by other notable Asian restaurants Florilège, Tokyo (No.30); Odette, Singapore (No.36); Sorn, Bangkok (No.39); La Cime, Osaka (No. 41) ; Narisawa, Tokyo (No.45)

South America boasts eight restaurants overall including new entry Mayta (No.32) in Lima and Oteque (No.47) in Rio de Janeiro while new entry Fyn in Cape Town (No.37) is crowned The Best Restaurant in Africa. Pujol (No.5) in Mexico City took The Best Restaurant in North America spot for the third time.

In addition to awarding the top 50, René Frank of Coda, Berlin took The World’s Best Pastry Chef Award, Josep Roca, sommelier and co-owner of El Celler de Can Roca, Girona, Spain was named the Beronia World’s Best Sommelier, social entrepreneur Wawira Njiru, took home the Icon Award, Marseille restaurant AM par Alexandre Mazzia, is the winner of the American Express One To Watch Award, Aponiente in the south-west of Spain took home the Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award. New York’s 14-seat tasting menu restaurant Atomix awarded The Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award
