You wouldn’t believe that along Stanley Street in the buzzling Central there’s this glass door entrance with an outdoor seating just by the street that will transport you to France once you step inside.

Awash in light colour palette, LPM (La Petite Maison) reminds us of the classic French Riviera, from the art pieces that hangs on the walls featuring bright and eccentric contemporary pieces which reminds you of the 20th century, to the leather banquet seating, well-spaced tables and white table cloths, diners will be reminded of the Belle Époque’ villas on the Côte d’Azur.

The heart and soul of this 110 seater restaurant lies on the open kitchen concept which offers Southern French inspired cuisine, served ‘à la minute’. Once seated diners will be surprised to see two tomatoes, a lemon, a bottle of olive oil and a serrated knife. Wondering what it is? It’s meant for diners to slice the tomatoes and enjoy it with their meal, while you can cut and squeeze a wedge of lemon to your favourite dish or drinks while the olive oil can be enjoyed with their daily fresh bread basket.

We came during a weekday lunch and the restaurant is bustling with diners comprising of corporate workers, socialites, couples and a few tourists with most coming here to enjoy their lunch outing, lunch meeting or just a casual lunch.

The ala-carte menu looks interesting but we were focused on having a quick lunch and we decided to opt for the weekday business lunch sets which is available from Monday to Friday which comprise of two starters and a main priced at HK$448 per person.

Yellowtail Carpaccio with Guacamole and Citrus Dressing

For starters we opted to top-up a supplement fee and went for the Tartatre De Boeuf, beef tartare with smoked bone marrow mayonnaise, this is seriously one of the best beef tartare we have ever tried and we were left wanting for more. We also enjoyed the French classic dish Escargots De Bourgogne, Snails with Garlic Butter and Parsely.

Other notable starters we enjoyed is the Salade De Mais Et Pomme Grenade, sweet corn salad with pomegranate and herbs and The Carpaccio De Seriole, Amberjack Carpaccio with Green Apple Dressing was equally delicious, the amberjack was so fresh and the combination of Guacamole and Citrus Dressing impressed me.

LPM

For mains, we opted for the Sagabuta Pork with Chimichurri (Porc Sagabuta Avec Chimichurri) and Grilled Sirloin steak with Tarragon Sauce (Entrecote Grillee, Sauce Estragon), we were impressed by the soft and tenderness of the meat for both dishes. The pork was well marinated and served with flavourful chimichurri while the grilling process of the sirloin steak brought out the natural flavours of the meat. Should you opt for the sirloin steak, a supplement of 188HKD is needed.

Vanilla Crème Brûlée

For dessert, we recommend the huge portion of Crème Brulee, another play on a classic French dessert which is meant to share for 2-3 persons. This dessert is perfectly crafted with rich and sweet vanilla custard atop a perfectly torched sugar leaving it golden and crisp. Should you still have space after finishing the latter, you can also try the French toast with Spice ice cream, both desserts are a supplement of 60HKD each.

Tomatini 2

While the restaurant offers quality wine options, we highly recommend you to try their signature Tomatini cocktail, a refreshing cocktail using fresh muddled tomatoes with Vodka, white balsamic vinegar, sugar syrup and a pinch of salt and pepper.

From its welcoming hospitality, French interiors that embodies true French dining and comforting menu with an array of honest flavours and impeccable cooking technique, LPM (La Petite Maison) Restaurant & Bar marries all together to bring you an enjoyable French dining experience whether you’re in for a casual dinner or a quick lunch. A place I would want to go back and would want my friends to visit when they’re in Hong Kong.
