This October is a passionate one for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, as they are joined onstage by various world-class soloists to present classic pieces and an Asian premiere all month long. Look forward to works from Schubert, Bartok, Beethoven and of course, a concerto co-comissioned by various countries across the world.

16 October 2025 is the one highlight night to look forward to, with virtuosity abundant in the air as conductor Hans Graf is joined by French pianist Pierre Laurent Airmard for Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a challenging and demanding work that pushes both the pianist and the orchestra to their limits. When in perfect dialogue, the concerto fully showcases Bartok’s fascination with folk rhythm and percussive textures locking together in harmony.

Pierre-Laurent-Aimard

But before that Sir James MacMillan’s Concerto for Orchestra Ghosts will be making it Asian premiere, with spectral atmospheres that captures the vivid sounds of the orchestra through emotional depth. And to end of the night, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet ends the night on an emotional high with it’s lyrical catchy melodies and thunderous battle scenes that will leave you on an emotional high.

Rudolf-Buchbinder

If you love the sound of the keys, Rudolf Buchbinder in Recital on 24 October will be more up your alley, with a repertoire of Schubert’s sparkling Opus 90 Impromptus, as well as the evocative Beethoven’s Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31 No. 2 “Tempest” and the Sonata No. 21 in C major, Op. 53 “Waldstein”; all works that requires mastery of the piano.

On a lighter note, the Emperor Concerto / Rudolf Buchbinder + Springtime in Funen on 23 October 2025 revels in life and the spritly energy of springtime. Led by Michał Nesterowicz and joined by the Singapore Symphony Chorus, enjoy Nielsen’s Hymn of Love (Hymnus Amoris) and Springtime in Funen (Fynsk Forår) which will take you on a frolic through the Danish countryside.
