With an acclaimed international career spanning major orchestras from Helsinki to Tokyo, Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu now brings his artistry and precision to Singapore, taking the helm of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as the incoming Music Director in the 26/27 Season. Succeeding Hans Graf, whose tenure has been marked by artistic refinement and resilience through the post-pandemic years, Lintu steps into the role with a reputation for both intellectual depth and electrifying performances.
Lintu’s first ever performance with the orchestra presents two major works with the Singapore Symphony Chorus and the Singapore Symphony Youth Choir on the 14th and 15th November 2025, with guest soloists Hera Hyesang Park (soprano), Virginie Verrez (mezzo-soprano), Elgan Llŷr Thomas (tenor) and Edward Grint (bass baritone).
Haydn’s Missa in angustiis, also commonly known as the Nelson Mass, is a fitting choice to kickstart Lintu’s journey with the SSO, as it sets a tone of hope and renewal for the audience as we look forward to a new season.
Then we move on to Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, another inspiring yet graceful piece that brings to life a child’s vision of heaven. The soprano soloist’s pure, heartfelt voice beautifully conveys the final movement’s innocent vision of heaven, while the orchestra’s shimmering soundscape adds depth and elegance to the childlike simplicity.
Hannu Lintu conducts Nelson Mass + Mahler 4 is happening on 14-15 November 2025 at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Tickets available online from $38
