The LKY Musical: Remembering Mr. Lee Kuan Yew

In memory of the late founding Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, Metropolitan Productions announces the official world premiere of The LKY Musical on 24th July 2015 at the MasterCard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands and is expected to continue through the Jubilee celebrations over the National Day weekend.

Set against the backdrop of the Singapore story, The LKY Musical is a musical adaptation and celebration of Mr Lee’s extraordinary life, vision and leadership in taking Singapore from a Third World to First.

The LKY Musical follows the life of Mr Lee Kuan Yew from his early days at Raffles College to the founding of independent Singapore. Heading the cast is seasoned theatre actor Adrian Pang on the titular role of LKY and Singapore’s top host and actress, Sharon Au playing the coveted role of Mrs Lee. Other casts include prolific actor Sebastian Tan who will play the role of Koh Teong Koo (a character that represents everyman) and up and coming actor Benjamin Chow who will take on the role of Lim Chin Siong.

“It is going to be an uphill task, but it is such a great honour to play this great role model, who was the partner and an equal to the architect of modern Singapore. This is going to be Singapore’s own timeless story.” says Sharon.

This exciting project is the work of an international team of artists. Music by Singapore’s iconic musician and composer Dick Lee; a compelling story based on the work of internationally renowned Singaporean writer, Meira Chand; directed by veteran London director Steven Dexter (Forbidden City; Portrait of an Empress); lyrics by Olivier award-winning lyricist Stephen Clark (Martin Guerre); and script by Tony Petito (A twist of fate)

Tan Choon Hiong, Director of Metropolitan Production says “Three years ago, a group of theatre-loving friends came together and lamented why Singapore didn’t have any plays or musicals on our leaders like other countries do, especially one on our very own Mr. Lee Kuan yew, whose extraordinary leadership and nation-building talents have inspired people everywhere.”
