Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023: Le Du from Bangkok named Asia’s No.1 and Thailand’s Best Restaurant

Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 were announced last night 28 March at the Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. This is the very first in-person event since the pandemic and also marks the return of the award ceremony to the lion city since the first ever list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants were announced in 2013.

Chef Thitid Tassanakajohn’s Bangkok-based restaurant Le Du was named Asia’s best restaurant after being in the No.4 spot in last year’s edition.

The 11th edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was hosted by popular Television personality and foodie Anita Kapoor along with William Drew Director of Content at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. The event was also live-streamed across all continent and the world.

Singapore’s restaurants took nine coveted spots with Labyrinth moving up an impressive 29 spots to No.11 and winning the Highest Climber Award. Bangkok took a total of nine restaurants, among which Nusara, also helmed by Le Du’s Chef Ton, taking the No.3 spot while Gaggan Anand re-enters the rankings at No.5.

Tokyo’s restaurants is represented by seven spots with Sézanne, at No.2, climbing up an impressive 15 places. Den, which was named The Best Restaurant in Asia last year, takes the No.4 in the ranking. Hong Kong’s The Chairman takes one of the five spots for Hong Kong with Neighbourhood (No.29), Wing (No.37), Mono (No.41) and Caprice (No.49) all returning favourites on the list.

Seoul has four spots on the list amongst which Chef Sung Ahn’s Mosu climbing up twelve spots to No.15, Shanghai and Macau are represented by two spots each. In the former, haute vegetarian restaurant Fu He Hui is at No.18 and Da Vittorio is at No.34. Macau’s opulent Wing Lei Palace climbs up seven places to No.39, and Sichuan Moon re-enters the rankings at No.43.

Mumbai and Delhi both have a restaurant each: Masque at No.16 and Indian Accent at No.19 while Avartana in Chennai claims the Highest New Entry Award at No.30.

The Best Restaurants in Respective Countries

Le Du was named the best restaurant in Thailand, Singapore’s Odette was named the best in Singapore, Tokyo’s Sézanne, Hong Kong’s The Chairman, Korea’s Mosu, India’s Masque, Mainland China’s Fu He Hui, Macau’s Wing Lei Palace, Vietnam’s Anan Saigon, Taiwan’s Mume and Philippines Toyo Eatery were named the best in their respective countries.
