Mizue Is All About The Harmonious Blend of Japanese & Italian Flavours

87 Club Street has now been taken over by Mizue, who has brought a zen-like fusion of Japanese and Italian flavours into the wine bar. Named after the Japanese kanji character for water, the bar exudes a serene calm with soft, ambient lighting and lots of natural wood accents.
Naturally, the restaurant is a café by day, with nourishing and delicious dishes that satisfies, and turns into a sleek urban wine bar that we are all familiar with at Club Street. While the food menu extend to nightfall, the drinks list is a comprehensive curation of sake, Japanese liqueurs, and wines that pairs well with the fusion dishes.
The dishes are all very familiar dishes that shows of the homely yet freshness of Japanese ingredients, like the Cubano Sando, a baguette sandwich filled with Japanese-style braised pork belly and homemade pickles, the Roasted Kabocha Pumpkin Salad with tahini dressing, cabbage, and fried chickepeas, and the Mizue Salmon Grain Bowl, a crowd favourite that can be eaten on its own or shared.
At night, if you’re looking for something to nibble between friends, try the Buckwheat Shokupan is soft bread served with smoked Goma butter, Whipped Burrata – where burrata cheese is lightly whipped with honey and yuzu oil and topped with shaved Momotaro for a sweet and refreshing treat. Mains are better shared too, and the resonating must-trys for the table are the Scallop Maitake Risotto, a savoury risotto cooked with dashi stock and plenty of earthy mushrooms and umami seared scallops, and the Pappardelle Kombu Beef Ragu that is more flavourful with the addition of kombu and togarashi.
The bartender is always happy to suggest a sake or wine to suit the mood, or try one of their interesting cocktail creations. Most of the cocktails are light and flavourful, like the Shisou Collins with a blend of Koi Shisou and gin, and the Daikon Palmon, a tequila cocktail with daikon juice. For something a lil stronger, the Houjicha Old Fashioned is one to order as it features Houjicha infused-bourbon whiskey and bitters.
The Momomo – a Japanese peach wine – is sweet enough for dessert itself and is our current favourite on the liquers list, which constantly changes. The craft beer menu will also pique interest with the selection of Japanese beers like the Isekado Hime White, Baird Brewing Rising Sun Pale Ale, and the Hideji Kuri Kuro Dark Chestnut Ale.
For us, Mizue is the place to be for a chill night with friends or even if its just to get a nightcap to end the day, with comforting food and no-frills drinks in the lowkey establishment tucked away in what can be a very bustling street after hours.
Mizue is open daily and located at 87 Club Street, Singapore 069455.
