The Macallan Experience: A Cinematic Whisky Experience Like No Other

Any self-respecting whisky aficionado would consider a pilgrimage to his favourite whisky distillery in Scotland to be the hallmark of his whisky journey. But since international travel is near impossible at the moment (seen by the collapse of the Singapore-Hong Kong travel bubble), Macallan has come up with the next best thing: an immersive cinematic experience that gives you a brief tour about the brand’s origins along with a short movie that evokes the senses.

Spanning over several shop units at the Raffles Arcade, The Macallan Experience (S$28 per pax) begins with The Cask Tunnel, filled with whisky casks that makes for a perfect photo opportunity as the host gives you a brief explanation about how the cask making process- from the distinct selection of the oak used to how the maturing process is pivotal to the overall flavour of the whisky. Afterwards, you’ll be whisked away to a section where you can take a whiff of the actual casks they use to age the whiskies along with a short video clip that details how the casks were handcrafted by the craftsmen of Jerez de la Frontera in Southern Spain.

Once everyone is ready, you and your group of whisky lovers will be led into the state-of-the-art Sensory Cinema- the main highlight of the Macallan Experience that is almost akin to a home cinema outfitted with first class leather seats. Get yourself settled for a short 12 minute cinematic experience like no other that comes with two drams of Macallan’s classic whiskies- The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old and The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Years Old.

The film’s cinematography blew us away with their visuals and thought-provoking messages that reflected the essence and core of Macallan’s history and future along with the drams of whiskies that we were prompted to drink during the course of the film. All proceeds from the Sensory Cinema ticket sales will be donated to the Water and Healthcare Foundation (WAH) to help rural communities in Cambodia.

After the end of The Experience, head next door to the open bar and retail area where you’ll be able to look at some of the rarest whiskies that Macallan has in their arsenal, such as The Macallan 72 Year Old In Lalique, one of the rarest (only 600 bottles available worldwide) and the oldest whisky that Macallan has released to date. Other exclusive bottles include the Masters of Photography series, The Macallan Reflexion and The Macallan Raffles Hotel Singapore Edition just to name a few.

Take a seat by the bar or lean back at the comfy couches at the lounge area and enjoy a glass of whisky or two from the bar’s extensive menu that may not be found at your average watering hole. As you sip on your glass of golden elixir, be entranced by the interactive kinetic art installation that was created solely for The Macallan experience that was inspired by The Macallan six pillars and brought to life by the award-winning creative agency, FutureLabs.

Apart from the visual and tasting experience, Macallan has also collaborated with Raffles Hotel to provide a monthly VIP dining experience where some of Macallan’s finest whiskies will be paired with a specifically curated tasting menu by Raffles Hotel’s executive chef and his culinary team from Butcher’s Block, Le Dame de Pic and 藝 YÌ BY Jereme Leung.
