Step inside the place and you will immediately be awed by the brick walls, modern furniture’s and graffiti artworks on the walls which was done in collaboration with local artists, very playful and casual. The interior will make you feel that you are transported instantly to New York or London.

Helmed by Australian Executive Chef Tim Ashwood, Tim spent a year under the mentoring of award-winning Chef Alain Ducasse at the iconic Michelin-starred restaurant in Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris. He brings to Nickeldime a modern international menu combining his passion and creativity.

Scotch Eggs

We tried four items on their menu and we started of our meal with their Scotch Eggs, Stout Brown Sauce which is wrapped with crispy smoked bacon with soft eggs on the inside. Their English brown sauce tastes exactly like BBQ sauce and it blends perfectly with the eggs. A good starter indeed.

Pickled Beetroot

The second item that came is the Pickled Beetroot & Witlof Salad, this dish is either a hit or a miss, if you love beetroot then this i am sure that you would love this. The beetroot is slow roasted, peeled and pickled in maple syrup and sherry vinegar. The beetroot despite being roasted retains the flavour and at the same time you could really taste the roast in the beetroot. The Witlof – a typical dutch vegetable is tossed with candied hazelnuts, orange segments and dressing made from beetroot pickle jus, the dressing is very mild and not overwhelming. The highlight is the feta mousse which completes the overall flavour of the salad which blends in balance the bitterness of the witlof.

croque madame

Served next is the Croque Madame, Nickeldime’s modern take on this classic all-time favourite dish. This dish is presented with three layers of homemade brioche using 3 types of ipa cheese, layered with Dijon mustard, hand-carved leg ham and topped with a sunny side up egg. The cheese totally masked the entire brioche making it more soft and cheesy as compared to the traditional Croque Madame while the Dijon mustard blended well with the egg yolk. You will fall in love with this dish with every bite along the way. This is a must try when you visit Nickeldime Alley.

Confit Duck Waffle

Finally we ended our meal with their Confit Duck Waffle, using duck leg, the duck is cured for 12 hours before slow-cooking in duck fat at eighty degrees. we were disappointed with the duck as it lacks in flavour and a bit tough. For what the duck leg lacks, the waffle makes up for it, the waffle is crispy, the stout glazed caramelized bacon served along with it is just so good, and once again, it is topped with a sunny side up egg. Enjoy the duck waffle by drizzling the Canadian maple syrup which is served separately for you to decide the level of sweetness you want your waffle to be.

A meal doesn’t make your visit to Nickeldime Alley complete without trying out their sixteen unique international craft beers on tap. The selections ranges from light and fruity– such as Stone & Wood Green Coast Lager and Lervig Orange Velvet, to more complex brews – including Pirate Life Mosaic IPA and Black Butte Porter. Non-alcoholic beverages is available for those who doesn’t take beers.

Nickeldime Alley having the hip casual vibe is a perfect destination for a casual night cap with friends over great food and drinks after a long day at work.
