Having established its roots in Singapore since 1970, Hilton Singapore is one of Singapore’s oldest hotels and has remained a popular staycation destination for travellers and locals alike! Recently, the Hilton has brought back its popular Opus “Steakcation” (S$265++ per night) package that it first introduced in 2020. The package includes a night’s stay in one of the hotel’s rooms, with a choice of a mouth-watering grilled seafood dinner or sharing steak experience for two guests inclusive of 2-hour free flow wine (U.P.S$178++) package per stay at Opus Bar and Grill. Additionally, the package also includes complimentary breakfast for two the next morning as well as free usage of the various facilities such as the gym or swimming pool- but prior reservations are required due to the COVID-19 measures.
Although the hotel has received extensive renovations since the 70s, upon entering the rooms we felt that it was a little lackluster. While they had all of the common amenities that one might expect of a normal hotel room, the design of the room was a little dull and basic- a far cry from a 5-star hotel. Additionally, the television in our room was faulty and we were unable to purview some channels- which would be a bummer for guests who are just looking for some R&R or looking to kick back in the room!
Despite being a little disappointed from the average conditions from the rooms, we moved on to the other highlight of the staycation package- the exquisite dining experience at Opus Bar and Grill! Upon arrival at one of the top steakhouses in Singapore, we were well taken care of by the restaurant’s ever attentive waitstaff. As part of the steakcation package, we got to choose from one of the many choices of the sharing cuts that showcases some of Opus’s signature cuts of steaks and freshly caught seafood that showcases a diverse range of flavours and an intense aroma that comes from the Jarrah wood in the grill!
For the hardcore purist meatlovers, guests are encouraged to get the 1.2 KG Whisky-Aged Rangers Valley Wagyu Tomahawk, which involves an extremely fatty yet tender Australian steak that has been grain-fed for a year, cooked to a perfect medium rare (or to the guest’s preference) that promises a melt-in-your-mouth experience with each and every bite! The proteins are already a delicious treat on their own, but we highly recommend the Bearnise sauce and the Black truffle with wild mushroom sauce to further enhance the flavour of the protein and balance out the fat of the steak.
Alternatively, guests can also opt for the Wagyu and Lobster- a balanced surf and turf option that involves 500g of Wagyu Sirloin beef that comes with a mouth-watering whole Boston Lobster that will serve as a satisfying compromise for guests who prefer a balance of flavours and are not that keen on filling up on steak alone! For sides, we opted for a side of broccoli and smoked risotto to complement and enhance the diverse taste of the proteins on the table!
Overall, for the price of the steakcation package, the staycation is well worth the price of admission. We got to stay overnight at one of the Hilton Hotel rooms although the quality of the room was lacking, got treated to a succulent steak dinner and had a pretty decent breakfast before we checked out. But we do hope that Hilton can do something about the decor and facilities in their rooms.
