Be Mesmerized as Marilyn Monroe turns into Albert Einstein in a Single Painting
Popular Spanish painter Sergi Cadenas is known for this illusory, two distinct image portraits in his paintings. Cadenas’s technique is informed by his training as a metalworker in Girona, Spain, where he runs his family’s centuries-old foundry, Ferros d’Art Cadenas. His artwork can be found in the Porrentruy Optical Art Museum (POPA) in Switzerland and in private collections around the world.
Cadenas’ artworks use a piping bag to create large-scale canvases with vertical strips, and the age-old optical illusions, Cadenas is able to paint separate portraits on either side of the narrow ridges to create mesmerizing effects.
In one painting, Marilyn Monroe turns into Albert Einstein and viewers are greeted with a young face that ages, a face that morphs into something else, and many variations that are both delightful and unexpected. Each portrait stands alone as its own artwork, but in moving between the two ends, a transitional third painting emerges as well.
You can now view Cadenas’s artwork in Singapore exclusively in Ode to Art gallery, with its transformation in plain sight.
