As alternative investments start to rise in popularity and many individuals are trying their hand at investing to grow their wealth, one liquid-based investment has started to gain a popular reputation as an investable asset aside from just being drunk at parties or being given as a gift: Whisky investment.
Hg Exchange, the private member-driven securities exchange founded by PhillipCapital, PrimePartners, Fundnel and Zilliqa, today announced the first day of trading of Southeast Asia’s first digital, whisky-based asset-backed security investment (ABS). The ABS was listed by Rare Cask Holdings Pte Ltd (“Rare Cask Holdings”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of PrimePartners Corporate Finance Holdings (“PPCFH”). The ABS portfolio included some old vintages that included a Port Ellen 1979, Mortlach 1993, Caol lla 1990, Benrinnes 1992 and Talisker 1989.
“The whisky-based ABS was well traded on its first day confirming strong investor interest for this type of alternative investment opportunity and highlighting the benefits of the liquidity offered by listing on Hg Exchange. The ABS now trades alongside a growing number of other financial securities on the exchange including private company equities, private equity and venture capital funds, and real estate” said Willie Chang, Chief Operating Officer of HGX.
All five ABS were actively traded on the first day, with a combined trading value of GBP 700,000 that reconfirms and strengthens its market liquidity.
“We are delighted by the positive reaction to this whisky-based ABS from Accredited Investors in Singapore, across Asia and around the world. In particular, we are excited to see Port Ellen generate an over 30% return in today’s trading. The liquidity of the products demonstrate an active market in this exclusive portfolio of rare whisky casks.” said Gerald Ong, Deputy Chairman and Executive Director of PPCFH
Accredited Investors or high net worth clients who are interested in trading in the whisky-based ABS can contact the Hg Exchange Member Firms PhillipCapital, PrimePartners or Fundnel.
