REVIEW: Japanese Salon HaLu Hair Design Provides Luxury Hair Treatments & Cuts

Japanese hair salons are known for their high-quality treatments and stylish cuts, which always comes with a steep price. Veteran stylists Daisuke Kasai and Seiji Kawashima has launched their very own concept, bringing you an authentic Japanese salon experience without emptying your wallets.

Hair cuts start from S$50, increasing depending on the position of the stylists, but you will definitely be in good hands for the price! The range of treatments include hair treatments for damaged, bleached hair, as well as color and perm solutions. The star treatment is a revitalizing damage repair solution, Tokio Inkarami. The multi-step ritual uses a combination of massaging, a mixture of protein, keratin, Fullerne, and a steaming mask to lock in hydration to keep those locks silky smooth.

The cosy salon is right next to Clarke Quay, tucked up in the second floor of a shophouse along Mohamed Sultan Road. Stepping into the salon, you will be greeted by calming tones of natural wood and pink. There’s a storage area for your belongings, before you are seated.

The salon is really small, and seats probably not more than 7 people at a time, so a booking is always safest if you want a guaranteed seat. I was excited to have Seiji Kawashima work on my hair, as he ended up transforming my look. My hair was bleached dry, and was washed out with remnants of purple and blue-ish green. With a little testing, Seiji recommended me against bleaching my roots and to go for a deep purple mix with red and blue undertones.

The dye-ing process was quick and easy as I already had bleached hair. Since the inkarami treatment would wash out all the color in my hair as it requires many rounds of washing, Seiji recommended a lite version of inkarami with just one round of masking and steaming to lock in the hydration. That was enough to revitalize my hair, and it looked a lot healthier.

I quite enjoyed my experience at the studio, as I felt that Seiji gave recommendations that took into account my preferences and the state of my hair to give me a look that I loved. I would even dare say I left looking like a different person!
