Bora Aksu Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection

Bora Aksu‘s AW19 collection draws inspiration from Valentina Tereshkova – the first woman to travel to space.Tereshkova joined a club for parachutists when she was 18 and was selected as one of 5 women to be in the cosmonaut team. In 1963 she became the first woman to fly in space and subsequently she toured the world promoting science and feminism. To date, Tereshkova serves as a role model for all women throughout the world to follow their dreams.

In a vibrant palette of pastel colours – seafoam, baby blue, blush pink and lavender – Bora Aksu’s AW2019 collection is a heavenly mix of iridescent organza and tulle fabrics that make reference to Tereshekova’s space trip, drawing on the contrasts of her early life growing up in a small village.Inspired by her determination in the face of traditional restrictions, Bora Aksu explored the combination of soft feminine fabrics and structured shapes that inject a sense of romance into the bolder silhouettes.

Weightlessness is key, with iridescent fabrics that give soft colours a shimmering, aquatic quality, and an ethereal texture. This quality is tempered by Aksu’s characteristic tailoring in the form of overcoats and boxy jackets that give a nod to new romanticism whilst simultaneously exploring a futuristic element. Bora Aksu’s AW19 collection encompasses three themes – Boyish Bohemian, Work Utility and Sport Street.

Boyish Bohemian
Possessing both masculine and feminine iterations, the Boyish Bohemian collection is crafted out of sartorial elegance. Showcasing ethereal textures and reflecting light in a playful manner, the combination of fluid, flowing fabrics and structured silhouettes adds a flair of airy romance to the strong and bold character of the pieces.

Work Utility
Unleashing her inner femme fatale, the Work Utility is a force to be reckoned with. The combination of soft feminine fabrics and structured shapes characterised the look while at the same time maintaining a relaxed fit for a casual ensemble. Complete the structured look with a strong feminine edge for maximum grace and a whimsical accent.

Sport Street
Take on a new attitude as you delve into the Sport Street collection, with its subdued yet confident outlook. This new-fangled attitude was apparent through the masculine silhouette, imbuing the look with relentless power. Alongside, soft elements peak through the mix-match of textiles to create a curious juxtaposition of casual chic and professionalism.
