Iconic luxury Thai resort, Pimalai Resort & Spa remains confident of a quick bounce back from Covid-19 thanks to loyal guests. Serge Trigano, former president of Club Med and president of Mama Shelter, is one of them and is planning to book his 16th stay with his family during the upcoming high season.

Since its opening 20 years ago on the peaceful shores of Koh Lanta island, Pimalai Resort & Spa has succeeded in winning the loyalty of its customers. The majority of them are repeat guests, returning year after year to the private, nature-inspired, multi-generational experience the resort brings thanks to a seasoned team of staff inspired by an authentic Thai hospitality.

“As soon as I know I will be able to travel again, I will book my 16th stay in December. For me, it’s the best resort in Asia,” said Serge Trigano, from the family who created Club Med. After having led the iconic hospitality brand, Trigano has continued to innovate, re-imagining urban hotels with Mama Shelter, the brand the Trigano family founded in collaboration with design luminary Philippe Starck. It is a collection of lively, unique and quirky hotels and restaurants in 12 cities and 7 countries, including Los Angeles, Paris, Prague and Rio. Accor owns a 70-percent stake in Mama Shelter and new locations are due to open all over the world, including in Asia.

When asked if Pimalai’s profile matched new travel trends, Trigano believes the iconic resort has everything guests are going to look for. Situated on the laid-back southern tip of Koh Lanta and nestled in 100 acres of tropical jungle, it has never been a fit for mass tourism. Privacy is guaranteed with suites and villas spread throughout the estate. The beach is long and private and there are many dining options where social distancing will not be an issue. On top of this, Pimalai features an award-winning luxury spa that is a destination on its own and that offers traditional and contemporary therapies.

In anticipation of its opening, Pimalai has initiated a full deep-cleaning and maintenance programme that is in progress across the resort including accommodation, public areas, restaurants, spa and gardens. Innovative new hygiene measures are currently being tested and will be announced before the resort reopens. The resort has started full renovations of 20 of its hillside ocean-view villas with private pools.

The design concept is by Thailand’s P49 and offers bright, modern interiors inspired by marine colours, contours and movement. The resort is also conceptualising the first wedding chapel on the island with appointed designers Habita, whose work includes projects for Six Senses and Soneva, set to confirm designs in the coming weeks.
