Is Hawker Chan Going to Lose It’s One Michelin Star?

The list of Bib Gourmand Restaurants and Stree Food establishments has been announced a week before the Michelin Guide Singapore 2017 star event happening on 29 June 2017 at The Fullerton Hotel wherein this year’s recipients of the Michelin Star will be unveiled.

This year, a total of thirty-eight restaurants and hawker stalls made it to the list of which nine establishments are new entrants.

The nine new Bib Gourmand entrants are Ah Er Soup specializing in traditional Chinese herbal located at ABC Brickworks Market and Food Centre, Zai Shun Curry Fish Head specializing in Curry Fish Head located at Blk 253 Jurong East Street 24, French inspired modern rotisserie and bar Bar-Roque Grill located at Tanjong Pagar Road, Peranakan Restaurant The Blue Ginger, World’s first Michelin starred ramen Tsuta Ramen located in Pacific Plaza, Authentic yakitori and Japanese restaurant Shirokane Tori-tama located at Robertson Walk, Singapore’s first Unagi concept restaurant Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant located at Keong Saik road, New Lucky Claypot Rice specializing in Claypot dishes located at 44 Holland Drive and Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce and Chicken Rice & Noodle specializing in Cantonese-style roast meat located at 78 Smith Street.

Business has prospered for Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce and Chicken Rice stall who received One Michelin Star for his stall located at Blk 335 Chinatown Food Complex at the inaugural Michelin Guide Singapore last year.

Currently, Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice stall is being run by a partnership between Hersing Culinary and Chef Chan who opened the very first 80 seater restaurant under the same name at 78 Smith street just opposite his original stall. Talks are also ongoing for overseas expansions in neighbouring Asian countries of which we heard Taiwan and Philippines are almost a done deal.

Having Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice included in this year’s Bib Gourmand made us wonder if the maiden stall will eventually be stripped of its Star? This we have to wait until next week when the Michelin Stars are unveiled.
