Well-known for its fitness wearables, Garmin has released a hybrid smartwatch that marries classic design and smart technology. Meet the Vivomove Trend, Garmin’s latest all-rounder smartwatch that delivers functionality and performance in a sophisticated design. The Vivomove Trend is a daily all-rounder that balances style and functionality, equipped with a variety of health tracking features for the fitness junkies and health conscious alike.
The Features
Typical of a Garmin watch, the Vivomove Trend is packed with a variety of health tracking features. Its standout tracking features include blood oxygen saturation levels, respiration levels, sleep monitoring, stress, body battery and even fitness age.
The smartwatch also keeps you connected with your phone as you can choose to receive notifications on your watch. IOS users will receive a preview of their notifications, while Android users can view the details of the notification and even send a quick reply.
Performance-wise, the Vivomove Trend has an impressive battery life of up to five days in smartwatch mode. It is also water-resistant with 5 ATM water rating, so it can withstand light splashes, rain and swimming. The watch measures wrist-based heart rate when running, cycling and even underwater, perfect for those with active lifestyles.
To use the watch, start by pairing your watch with your phone by downloading the free Garmin app on your phone. The app is easy to navigate, making the pairing process fast, simple and seamless. You can customise your watch according to your preference by selecting your choice of tracking features offered in the app.
Design-wise, the Vivomove Trend looks like an unassuming classic watch. It draws compliments for its chic design, and is also fascinating to experience the watch transform from classic to smartwatch mode. With one tap of the screen, the hidden digital display lights up as the watch hands move intuitively, adjusting to the display.
The watch is indeed packed with a variety of useful health features that I enjoyed. Personally, my favourite tracking features were the stress level, sleep quality, heart rate and blood oxygen levels. Users can check in with the Garmin app at the end of every day, week and month to get insights and trend charts of the health data tracked by the watch.
The notifications feature was disappointing as an iPhone user, as I was only able to receive previews of the sender of the notification and which app it came from. I personally did not find this feature as useful as I could not preview the actual message contents or send a reply — these functions are only available to Android users. Therefore, Android users would benefit more from the notifications feature on the Vivomove Trend compared to iPhone users.
In terms of performance, the Vivomove Trend has a long-lasting battery and is rather durable. The glass was able to withstand light knocks and bumps without leaving a single scratch or mark on the display. The battery life lasted for about 36 hours on a single full charge as I wore it daily throughout my busy schedule.
Overall, the Vivomove Trend is an excellent daily watch that is suitable for all wearers. Its sleek and chic design makes it a stylish watch that can be worn for any occasion — be it at the office, a casual day out or during workouts. The Garmin app is indeed insightful as it provides a detailed view of your health patterns, suited for those who are health conscious or live an active lifestyle.
The Garmin Vivomove Trend (S$439) is available for purchase online or in-store at Garmin Brand Stores and all authorised retailers.
