Review: Trendy Hair Color & Treatment at Featherz Studio

A good hair color job can work wonders, whether you’re going for a subtle chestnut brown wash or a pastel hair color. Which is why choosing the right hair salon is crucial to ensuring that you get the most bang out of your buck! Featherz Studio has a full suite of hair services, including cut, wash, hair color, treatment and their signature perms. Their affordable prices also caught our eye, with hair cuts starting from $55, hair dyes from $130, and perms from $158.

Featherz Studio is a homely hair salon located along New Bridge Road opposite Clarke Quay Central. The minimalistic décor attests to their aim to create trendy hair styles with healthy hair care to help look and feel your best, creating a tranquil escape from the bustling streets as you get a hair makeover.

My hair had bleached ends that were growing out, and was a bit frizzy from the humidity. So the request to Cici, the senior Color & Perm Specialist at Featherz, was simple; I wanted to refresh my look with a bright color, but keep the aftercare low maintenance.

Instead of going for a full head bleach and color, Cici recommended to keep my black hair base and only bleach the top outer layer, creating a balayage effect but still giving it that pop of color. Featherz uses Naseed Color, which has organic herb extracts and two pure seed oils to achieve that beautiful shine and finish in hair colouring. As it only has natural plant ingredients, there aren’t any harsh chemicals or odors that strip away hair moisture.

After the color was applied, Cici followed up with an Advante hair treatment as part of their hair care. The Advante Treatment is a conditioning treatment containing botanical extracts and essential oils to repair damaged hair by replenishing lost keratins and CMC. When used after bleaching hair, the treatment helps to reduce the hair breakage and dryness.

Throughout the entire hair dye experience, Cici and her team made sure I was very well taken care off during the four hours I was there. Snacks and drinks were provided instantly when I sat down, and even little things like giving me a cushion to prop up my laptop so that I could work whilst they worked their magic on my hair. The attention to detail left me feeling very pampered and relaxed.

I was really pleased with how the color turned out, with a light shade of burgundy pink that blended with my black roots for a natural, highlighted effect. The treatment left my hair smooth and soft for the next few washes. And then it was time to see how the color fared the next few weeks – most hair dye jobs fades really quick or bleeds everywhere in the shower and can add to the high maintenance of bright hair dyes. Surprisingly, the color did not bleed, and the pink faded into a nice caramel brown over three weeks. The faded color still gave me that refreshing pop of color that I was looking for without having to touch it up.
