Citadelle Rouge: The New Berry-forward Flavored Artisanal Gin

Renowned as the first artisanal French gin, Citadelle Gin has unveiled its latest addition to its permanent range in Singapore: Citadelle Rouge. The new flavour truly celebrates the French age-old tradition of distilling seasonal fruits. Citadelle Rouge is crafted from the original Citadelle Gin albeit enhanced with rhubarb, cranberry, blueberry, raspberry, and blackcurrant. These additions create a fresh red fruit flavor that perfectly complements the dry profile of the 19 signature base botanicals.
Despite its name—Citadelle Rouge, with ‘rouge’ translating to ‘red’—the gin remains clear in color. No sugar or artificial sweeteners are added to the recipe; the sweetness comes solely from the natural fruits. The infusion and distillation process captures the vibrant aromas of the fruits, transforming them into a pure, transparent spirit that bursts with flavor. Citadelle Rouge builds on the dry gin profile of the original with an intense burst of luscious tart berries, underscored by the tang of piquant rhubarb. This fruit-forward, all-natural essence glows on the palate but remains crystal clear in the glass.
“I was inspired to create this gin by the smell when my wife was making berry and rhubarb jam—it transported me back to my childhood when my grandmother made preserves from nearby orchards,” said Alexandre Gabriel, the creator of Citadelle Gin. “I wanted to draw from the techniques passed down through French families, distilling fruit to create spirits that capture the natural essence of fresh fruits.”
Gin enthusiasts can elevate their home drinking experience with three easy-to-make cocktails:
Rouge & Tonic: Combine 45 ml of Citadelle Rouge with ice in a highball glass, top with Yuzu Tonic Water, and garnish with a fresh raspberry.
Rouge Collins: Shake together 50 ml of Citadelle Rouge, 15 ml of sugar syrup, and 25 ml of fresh lemon juice, pour over ice in a highball glass, top with soda water, and garnish with a lemon peel.
Spritz ‘n’ Berry: Add 40 ml of Citadelle Rouge and 20 ml of Raspberry Liqueur to a wine glass, top with sparkling wine, and garnish with fresh mint.
The intense red fruit flavor profile of Citadelle Rouge is set to become a favorite among mixologists in Singapore, who will incorporate it into a variety of classic cocktails such as the Clover Club. You can find Citadelle Rouge at CU bar, Mandala Club, SO France, Alleybar, Set of Six, and Potato Head Singapore.
