World’s 50 Best Bars 2023: Barcelona’s Sips takes No.1 Spot, Jigger & Pony is Singapore’s best bar; Bangkok’s BKK Social Club takes Asia’s top spot at No. 13

The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023 unveiled the top bar rankings from No.1 to No.50 in the annual awards ceremony held for the very first time in Asia last night in Singapore at Pasir Panjang Power Station and hosted by Nikki Muller.

Barcelona’s Sips dethroned fellow Barcelona bar Paradiso as they took the No.1 spot while the latter slips to No.4 spot. New York’s Double Chicken Please takes the No.2 spot, up from their last year No.6 spot, co-founder GN Chan takes the Altos Bartenders’ Bartender Award 2023. Mexico’s Handshake Speakeasy completes the top 3 taking the No.3 spot.

The 2023 list includes bars from 28 cities worldwide, 11 new entries making the debut, along with Singapore’s Atlas Bar and Tokyo’s The SG Club returning as re-entries.

Asia is represented with BKK Social Club being named the Best Bar in Asia, ranked No.13 on the list. Singapore took 3 spots Jigger & Pony (No.14), Sago House (No.32) and Atlas (No.48). Hong Kong took 2 spots, Coa (No.20) and Argo (No.34). Japan also took two spots, The SG Club (No.36) and Ben Fiddich (No.37).

London took five spots on the list including Connaught Bar (No.5) and Tayēr + Elementary (No.8) making it to the top ten. Mexico City took four spots led by Handshake Speakeasy at No.3.

In addition to awarding the top 50, Gn Chan of New York’s Double Chicken Please (No.2) was named Altos Bartenders’ Bartender Award. Nighthawk, Singapore was named the Best Bar Design Award. Röda Huset, Stockholm (No.31) was named the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award.

Tres Monos, Buenos Aires (No.11) was recognised with the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award, while Lady Bee from Lima, Peru was named the Campari One to Watch Award.

Two bars in Athens received recognition, The Clumsies, Athens (No.47) was named the Remy Martin Legend of the List Award while Line, Athens (No.12) was named London Essence Best New Opening.

Oslo’s Himkok was named the Nikka Highest Climber Award having jumped from No.43 last year to No.11 this year. The American Bar Gleneagles was awarded the Siete Misterios Best Cocktail Menu Award, and Renato ‘Tato’ Giovannoni of Florería Atlántico in Buenos Aires named the Industry Icon Award.
