The hallmark of a good restaurant in Japan goes by the queue and the waiting time, and hamburg steak restaurant Hikiniku to Come commands waits from an hour long at their Tokyo outlets or month-long booking reservations. The Japanese steakhouse specializes in 100% Japanese beef hamburg steaks, and has outlets all over Asia and has now landed in Singapore.
Hikiniku to Come has opened its Singapore doors over at Vivocity, and Japanese-food enthursiasts and beef lovers will be able to indulge in the charcoal-grilled patties that the Japanese restaurant has become renowned for.
The counter-style restaurant has diners sat around the grill, where the chefs grill and serve the patties straight to your table. There’s only one item on the menu, with two additional sides. Each set comes with three hamburg beef patties, refillable rice and miso soup, and an egg, and is the main reason that keeps people returning.
The wagyu is flown in frozen from Japan, and is freshly ground and shaped into patties just it heads to be grilled over binchotan charcoal for that juicy, smokey flavour. Each patty is then served up to you one by one, with the servers waiting for you to finish about 70% of your previous patty before prepping your next patty so that the patties don’t become overcooked or cold.
Each table setting comes with a guide on the six pairings of sauces and two free flow sides, as well as three ways to enjoy the patties for the true Hikiniku to Come experience. Have the first patty in all its meaty flavour, overflowing with juices with every bite with Japanese pearl rice, the second with grated radish and refreshing ponzu dip, and the last with egg. The raw egg can enhance the patty in two ways in true Japanese fashion – either as an egg wash with the beaten egg yolk or mixed together over rice with a dash of soya sauce.
The two side dishes of raw kimchi and potato salad are refreshing additions that can add a bit of variety to your meal, but just the meat is amazing enough on its own.
Hikiniku to Come is now open in Singapore at VivoCity, #01-102/103, 1 HarbourFront Walk. Open daily from 11am – 11pm.
